PART II: HOW TO ACHIEVE PROENZA SCHOULER’S RESORT 2013 COLLECTION
In part two of our resort 2013 style posts we’ve recreated the incredibly wearable Proenza Schouler collection - one that the designers have referred to as “wearable, salable clothes that girls want”. For resort, this included bright boucle skirts, light-wash and loose-fitting denim and cropped leather pants. A series of airy tees added a cool-girl nonchalance to the looks, appearing in bright and saturated colours.
The key to this superb styling is the unexpected colour combinations and the marriage of super-casual separates with more formal, striking items. In the first look, the lime-green boucle skirt and the sleeveless button-up blouse epitomize the casual/formal balance that marks this collection, while the pop of interest in the metallic clutch adds a modern edge to the look. The same rules apply to the second style. Here the slouchy jeans and oversized white tee lean towards off-duty style, while the longer coat, strappy heels and yellow snakeskin clutch create an interesting contrast. The most intriguing detail in the last style is the combination of colours. The off-white boucle jacket worn with a saturated blue tee and jewel-toned snakeskin bag is unexpected, and makes the styling of such basic separates so fresh and inventive.
The essence of Proenza Schouler’s most resent resort collection is the juxtaposition of fashion-forward pieces and closet staples. Most of these items are garments you probably already own, it’s just a matter of taking a cue from the runways and pairing your more dressed-up items with your more casual ones.
